* Free while AutoRadian is getting started. After that: $12 for the first 60 days, $5 for each additional 30 days. We'll give notice before it changes. AutoRadian is brand new and launching in New York first. We're looking to expand to other states as we grow.

How it works

Cars for sale by owner. You pick the distance, we'll find the car. AutoRadian is where people sell their own cars, and where buyers find them — starting in New York.* No dealer inventory. No paid placement. No commissions. You find a car near you, you talk to whoever owns it, and the two of you sort out the rest.

Buying a car

  1. Say where you are and how far you'll go

Enter your ZIP and pick a distance, from 5 miles to 250. Every car is shown with how far away it is, and you can sort by that as easily as by price. If your distance crosses a state line we'll name the state and let you decide whether to include it.

  2. Narrow it down to the car you actually want

Filter by make, model, body style, transmission, price, year, mileage and trim. Every filter matches real vehicle data, not keywords.

  3. See every car the same way

Every car gets the same 14-photo set, so you know what views to expect when comparing listings.

  4. Your search stays your search

Ask for a 2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback with a manual, and AutoRadian searches for exactly that — not a sedan, not an automatic, not a “similar” car. If nothing matches yet, leave your number and we’ll text you the moment one is listed. You keep the search you actually wanted; we do the waiting. That’s No Drift Technology™.

  5. Read the listing, and read where each fact came from

Make, model, body style, transmission and year come from the VIN where the VIN provides them. When a detail isn't available from the VIN, the listing shows that it came from the seller instead; price and mileage are always the seller's. A source tells you where information came from, not whether it’s true. AutoRadian shows the source so you know what still needs checking.

  6. Get it inspected, if you want to

Buyers may choose to have a vehicle inspected by an independent inspector before purchasing. Sellers can do the same — getting a pre-purchase inspection done ahead of time and attaching the report to the listing. Inspection services are arranged directly between the customer and the inspector.

  7. Talk to the seller and go see the car

Messages go through the site until you swap numbers. A "Sale Pending" badge means the seller has a deal in progress; the listing is still live and you can still message them as a backup, because deals fall through. When you're ready to meet, read the safe-sale guide first.

Know where the information comes from.

Vehicle information is labeled by source where applicable. There are four: from the vin, from the seller, from the records, and an optional inspection. What the badges mean explains each label and what it does and doesn’t prove.

Selling your car

Listing is free for everyone while AutoRadian is getting started. Normally it’s $12 for 60 days live, and $5 for each additional 30 days if you want longer. No commission. AutoRadian doesn’t take a percentage of the sale. No paid placement: a listing fee pays for the listing, not for a higher spot in search results.

  1. Enter the VIN

Vehicle details available from the VIN are filled in automatically and can't be edited; anything the VIN doesn't provide is identified as seller-provided. Wrong car? List it again with the right VIN.

  2. Price it, and say where it is

Your asking price, the odometer reading, and the ZIP the car is actually in. If there's still a loan against it, say so here.

  3. Take 14 photos

Every listing requires the same 14 photos: front, rear, all four corners, both sides, undercarriage, instrument cluster, engine, front interior, rear interior and cargo area. In order: Front · Front Driver Corner · Driver Side · Rear Driver Corner · Rear · Rear Passenger Corner · Passenger Side · Front Passenger Corner · Under Carriage · Cluster · Engine · Front Interior · Rear Interior · Cargo Area.

  4. Verify your phone number

One text to confirm you control the number on the account. AutoRadian limits accounts and listings to help keep dealer inventory and duplicate listings off the site.

  5. Pay $12 and go live for 60 days

Buyers message you through the site; you reply from your account. Use "Mark pending sale" when you shake hands on a deal (buyers can still message you as a backup, and you can remove it if the deal falls through), and "Mark sold" when it's done.

You can have 2 cars listed at once, and list 4 different cars in any rolling 12 months — enough for anyone selling their own cars, not enough to run a business through. Putting the same car back up after it expires doesn’t count again, and neither does a new owner listing it after they buy it. What’s not allowed is two live listings for one car.

Sellers must be in New York today. More states will be added as AutoRadian expands. Buyers can already search across a state line.

What we don't do

We don’t hold your money, ship your car, guarantee anything about it, or take a side if something goes wrong afterwards. We don’t sell your place in the results, so a car is never above another one because someone paid more.

Private sellers only. AutoRadian doesn’t offer dealer accounts or paid inventory. Listings are subject to account and listing limits, and may be removed if they appear to break the private-seller rules. Listings offering financing or payment plans are rejected automatically; listings offering trade-ins or similar dealer terms may be removed.

We will remove a listing and the account behind it for fraud, for dealer activity, or for abusive messages. Every listing has a Report this listing link, and a person reads what comes in.
