AutoRadian is a marketplace for private car sales in New York: cars for sale by their owners, with no dealer inventory, no paid placement and no commissions.
Our role
AutoRadian is a marketplace, not a party to the transaction. AutoRadian does not buy, sell, broker, negotiate or finance vehicles and does not take possession of vehicles, titles or transaction funds. Buyers and sellers communicate and transact directly with one another and are solely responsible for their own decisions, agreements, payments, inspections, title transfers and other aspects of the transaction.
AutoRadian does not control the conduct of buyers, sellers, inspectors or other third parties and does not guarantee the condition, history, ownership, title status, mileage, representations or performance of any vehicle or the outcome of any transaction.
Any information displayed on AutoRadian is identified by its source where applicable, including VIN-derived information, seller-provided information, government or vehicle-history records, and optional independent inspection information. Buyers and sellers are responsible for independently verifying information and determining whether a transaction is right for them.
In plain terms: the sale is between the two of you, and so is the money, the paperwork, the test drive and any dispute afterwards. How to close a sale safely is advice, not a guarantee.
Where the information comes from
Know where the information comes from.
Every listing labels its sources: details decoded from the VIN, information given by the seller, records from government or vehicle-history databases, and any optional independent inspection. We identify the source; we don’t rank them, and naming a source is not a warranty of what it says. Verifying any of it, and deciding whether a car is right for you, is yours to do.
Private sellers only
You may list a car you own and are selling yourself. Dealers, brokers, wholesalers, and anyone listing on someone else’s behalf as a business may not. Listings offering financing or payment plans are rejected automatically; listings offering trade-ins or similar dealer terms may be removed.
A seller may have 2 cars listed at once and may list 4 different cars in any rolling 12 months. Sellers can be anywhere in New York. Buyers can be in New York or nearby parts of neighbouring states. More states will be added as AutoRadianexpands; until then you can search across a state line, but the cars you find will be listed from New York.
The same car can be listed again as often as it needs to be — just not twice at the same time, and re-listing one you’ve already had up doesn’t use another of the 4. If it didn’t sell and the listing expired, put it back up. If you sold it, whoever bought it can list it themselves when their turn comes. What the rule stops is two live listings for one car, which is how cloned-listing scams work.
A seller may mark a live listing “Sale Pending” while finalizing a deal, and may remove the mark again. The listing stays live and buyers may still message the seller. The mark clears automatically when the listing is marked sold, expires or is removed. It is the seller’s own statement about their plans; it is not a reservation, a contract, or anything AutoRadian enforces between the seller and any buyer.
What listing costs
- $12 for a listing, which keeps it up for 60 days.
- $5 for each additional 30 days, as many times as you like, whether the listing is still live or has already expired.
- $0 commission. We take no percentage of the sale, and there is no way to pay for a better position in the results. Those are the only charges.
Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. While AutoRadian is getting started we may waive the listing fee; where we do, the listing runs on the same terms as a paid one.
The $12 buys the listing, not a sale. It is not refundable because the car didn’t sell. There is one exception: if a paid listing runs its first 60 days without being extended and receives no enquiries at all, we refund it automatically — you don’t have to ask.
If your payment succeeds but the listing is refused (you were over a cap, the car already had a live listing, a moderator had removed it), we refund you automatically.
What you are promising us
That you own the car, that the VIN you enter is the VIN on the car, that the photos are of that car and taken recently, that the mileage is what the odometer reads, and that you have disclosed any outstanding loan against it.
Year, make, model, and drivetrain come from NHTSA’s VIN decode and cannot be edited. Photographing a different car, rolling back an odometer, or hiding a lien is grounds for removing the listing and the account, and may be fraud under the law.
Title checks and badges
When a listing is paid for we may buy a title-history report through NMVTIS. Those reports come from state records and can be incomplete or out of date. A “clean” badge means no brand was found on record — not that none exists. Get your own inspection and your own history report before you buy.
An inspection is optional. Buyers may choose to have a vehicle inspected by an independent inspector before purchasing, and inspection services are arranged directly between the buyer and the inspector. Inspectors listed on AutoRadian are independent businesses, not AutoRadian employees. Before an inspector is listed, they confirm they carry liability insurance and will provide proof if asked, verify a business phone number by text, and a person reviews the application. We do not employ them, book them, take payment for them, supervise their work, or arbitrate a dispute about it.
Moderation
We can remove any listing and suspend any account, at our discretion, including for suspected fraud, dealer activity, abusive messages, or repeatedly failing to show up to arranged meetings. A removed listing is hidden immediately and is not refunded.
We remove a listing, and the account behind it, for fraud, dealer activity, or abusive messages. Every listing has a “Report this listing” link, and a person reads what comes in.
Liability
The site is provided as-is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from a car you bought or sold, a person you met, a report we showed you, or time the site was unavailable. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Changes and contact
We may change these terms; the version on this page is the one that applies. Questions, complaints, or anything that needs a person: hello@autoradian.com.
